Crimean varsity entry criteria
Statement by:
PROF A.V. KUBYSKHIN

Crimean State Medical University

T IS with much worry and trepidation that we, the administration of Crimea State Medical University (CSMU) have been reading in your newspaper the issue of under-qualified students studying medicine in the Ukraine and Russia.

As we are the only university in Ukraine recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council and the Government, we would like to state the requirements for admission.

Founded in 1931, CSMU is one of the oldest medical schools in Ukraine, with seven faculties. At present, it has students from more than 30 countries. The university alumni include distinguished surgeons and physicians in more than 60 countries.

The university's prestige has been maintained through a system of effective and strict selection of students for enrolment.

To address the possibility of under-qualified students being admitted to CSMU, the admissions department has drawn up a list of criteria for international students based on their respective country's education system.

The minimum entry requirement for Malaysians, given to the Ukrainian Embassy in Malaysia in February, form the basis for the granting of student visas.

Malaysian students applying for admission to the One-Year Medical Programme must have passed SPM (science stream) with no less than C5 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Those wanting to do the First Year Medical Doctorate Programme, should have at least 12 years of education in the science stream, an STPM certificate or A-Levels with a minimum E grade in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Equivalent qualifications such as the South Australian Matriculation, Canadian Pre-University course or Malaysian Government matriculation are accepted. Grades should not be less than 60%.

More information can be obtained from the website: www.csmu.strace.net

The relevant authorities are welcome to write to the university for any clarification on our educational process, or for information on Malaysian students at CSMU. We can be contacted via e-mail: foreign.csmu@strace.net, fax/tel: 0038-0652-250-400.
